Grand Tour – 12 days

Day 1: Casablanca – Marrakech:

Arriving at Casablanca Airport we will drive 2 hours to Marrakech before our check in at our Medina Riad. Bed and Breakfast. BB.

Day 2: Exploring Marrakech:

Once we take breakfast in the Riad, we will start exploring Marrakech:” the red city of Morocco”. Our guide will ensure that we see the most important places of historical and cultural interest, including the Saadian tombs; the Palaces of El Bahia and El Badi and the Ben Wessel Coranique School. Lunch is at a restaurant near the square, then in the afternoon we will see the gardens at Majorelle, Menara and the Koutoubia tour. After dinner we will have the opportunity to walk around the ‘Square Jemaa El Fna’ full with magicians, story tellers, snake charmers and food sellers. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad. Bed and Breakfast. BB.

Day 3: Marrakech – Tizi Ntichka Pass – Ait ben haddou Kasbah – Dades Valley:

We will take a warm breakfast in our Riad, then we will travel to Ouarzazate via the dramatic Tizi Ntichka Pass and the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. Ait Ben Haddou village was built by the last Berber chieftain El Glaoui Ethami in late 19th century. The Kasbah is recognized as a UNESCO matrimonial historical site and is still a house of many Glaoui family members. After lunch we will continue to Ouarzazate, “the Hollywood of Africa”, where we have the option to visit and see many props used in movies we may already have seen. Some of the movies filmed in these studios are: Gladiator, and Alexander the Great. Overnight accommodation will be in a hotel in Ouarzazate. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad. Dinner Bed and breakfast. DBB.

Day 4: Dades Gorge – Todra Gorge – Merzouga: 250km.

After breakfast in the hotel, we will leave to explore the fascinating Dades and Rose Valleys. Our first stop will be at Skoura to walk within the Birds Valley and visit the beautiful and well preserved Kasbah of Ameridil. Then we will continue to the village of Kalaa M’gouna, famous for its roses and rose products. A rose festival is held here every May, when the roses are harvested. Since this is the road of the thousands Kasbahs we will have plenty of opportunities to take some beautiful pictures. Our journey continues to the Dades Gorge where we will enjoy seeing the amazing Rock formation called “the monkey Toes” and the standing Kasbah of Kasbah Ait Yul. After that we will drive to the hotel. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad. Dinner bed and breakfast. DBB.

Day 5: Merzouga area and the Camel trek:

After breakfast in the hotel, we will drive back through the valley to see the amazing rock formation “The Monkey Toes”, and the still-standing 19th century Kasbah of Ait Yul. Leaving the Dades valley towards Tinrghir and the Todra valley, we will see the panoramic views of the old mud Berber villages overlooking the valley. Arriving at the Gorge we will enjoy walking under the tremendous 300m high red cliff, where many rock-climbers come to enjoy their preferred sport. During our trip to Erfoud and Rissani where we will have lunch and afterwards, we will leave for the village of Merzouga – the home of our guide Wessel – where our camel and a glass of mint tea will be awaiting us before we check into our accommodation in our Hotel/Riad (DBB).

Day 6: Merzouga area and the Nomads of the Sahara:

We will take breakfast in the hotel and then we will start our explorative journey of the area, visiting the ‘Village of the Blacks’, originally slaves from Sudan to experience their music and lifestyle. The lake of Merzouga is not far away with its bird populations, including flamingos. We may also like to visit the nomad wire house. On the afternoon, we will ride our camel guided by an experienced Camel man, to explore inside the mysterious sand-sea of the Erg-Chebbi. Here we will spend our first night under the stars or in a traditional Berber nomad tent. Dinner will be served in the tent where we will spend the night (DBB). (The camp in equipped with flush-toilets).

Day 7: Merzouga – Rissani – Errachidia – Imilchil:

Early morning we will experience a fascinating view of a desert sunrise. Then we will camel trek back to take breakfast in our Riad in Merzouga. Then, we will travel to Er-Rachidia via the towns of Rissani and Erfoud. In Rissani we will have the opportunity to walk within the authentic Souk, an assortment of vegetables, spices and dates. In this souk we will witness a sea of conversations a traditional scenery of hooded men and veiled women negotiating prices. Our journey will continue to Er-Rachidia along the magnificent rich Ziz valley. Before we get to our hotel, we will stop to enjoy the panoramic view over the Ziz Canyon. Hotel/Riad: (DBB).

Day 8: Day Trip: Imilchil area:

After breakfast in our hotel we will leave for Fes via Azrou and Ifrane. Stopping en-route in Azrou, in the middle Atlas Mountains, in the Cedar forest there, we will have the opportunity to see the Barbarian apes in their natural habitat. Then we’re on to Ifrane “the French village» or” the Switzerland of Morocco”. Finally arriving in Fes, with overnight accommodation in our Hotel/Riad BB.

Day 9: Ifrane – Khenifra – Azrou – Ifrane – Fes: 230km.

After breakfast in our Riad, we will start exploring the cultural capital of Morocco. We will be walking in its alleys and small streets sensing its exotic smells century’s old houses. Our visit starts by the Royal Palace and the Jewish headquarter: the first Mullah ever built in Morocco. We will ensure that we visit all sites with cultural and historical interest including the famous Al Qaraouine University, one of the oldest in the world, and the Tanneries. After lunch, we will visit the ceramic factory and take in a panoramic view of the whole Medina of Fes. In the afternoon, we will visit the new city for a drink. Overnight accommodation is in our Riad. BB.

Day 10: Exploring Fes:

After breakfast in our Riad, we will travel to Chefchaouen via Meknes and Volubilis. In Meknes we will see the famous Bab Mansour gate, the Sahrij Souani basin and the Mausoleum. Our tour will continue to the Roman site of Volubilis where we will see some beautiful Mosaic dating to 25BC. Then we’re on to Chefchaouen. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad. BB.

Day 11: Fes – Meknes – Rabat:

After breakfast in our Riad we will start exploring the Medina of Chefchaouen; a beautiful unique city with its white washed walls and its blue doors and windows. Unlike many parts of Morocco, this city was occupied by Spain and the influences of Spanish civilization and architecture are all around. We will also have the opportunity to meet locals and walk in this beautiful Medina. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad. BB.

Day 12: transfer to the airport for your departure flight:

After Breakfast in our Riad, we will travel to see Hercules’s cave in Tangier before arriving at Tangier port for our departure. The tour ends at the port.
